Tajammul Kaleem (March 26, 1960[1] - 22 May 2025) was a Pakistani poet.
Early life and education
[edit]Tajammul Kaleem[2] was born in Pir Jhanian[3] village in Chunian Tehsil, Kasur District, Punjab, Pakistan.[4] Raised in a region rich with Sufi heritage, he was deeply influenced by the poetic traditions of Punjab. He inspired from Famous Sufi poet Bulleh Shah. Orphaned at a young age, Kaleem faced significant hardships that shaped his poetic sensibilities.
Literary journey
[edit]Despite early challenges, Kaleem pursued his passion for poetry.[5] He worked in the education department, which allowed him to continue his literary endeavors. His poetry is celebrated for its deep engagement with social realities, emotional depth, and linguistic richness. Notable works include "Tibba Toya Ik Barabar" and "Kamaal Karde O Badshaho", which showcase his mastery in Punjabi ghazals. His poetic world, woven from a rich imagination, encapsulates not only his own experiences but also those of his surroundings capturing social, economic, human, and moral aspects that set him distinct from his contemporaries.

[edit]Kaleem,s contributions to Punjabi literature[9] were recognized through various accolades. In June 2024, the Chief Minister of Punjab,[10] approved financial aid for his treatment, highlighting his esteemed position in the literary community. His poetry continues to resonate, reflecting the rich cultural tapestry of Punjab. Through his works, Tajammul Kaleem has left an indelible mark on the world of Punjabi literature.[11]
Death
[edit]Tajammul Kaleem died on 22 May 2025[12] after a prolonged illness.His funeral prayers (Namaz-e-Janaza) will be held after Juma prayers in his native village, where he will be laid to rest.
