Tadam Gyadu (born 8 August 1997) is an Indian comic book artist, penciller, and inker based in Mumbai.[1] Originally from Diyun, Arunachal Pradesh,[2] he is known for his work with prominent Indian and international comic publishers, most notably Marvel Comics.[3] He contributed to Spider-Man: India, as well as other Marvel titles such as Ghost Rider, What If...? Venom, and Avengers Unlimited. In India, he has worked with publishers like Raj Comics, Yali Dream Creations, Holy Cow Entertainment, and on commissioned projects for Royal Enfield.[4]
Early Life and Education
[edit]Tadam Gyadu was born on 8 August 1997 and raised in Rajnagar, a small village near Diyun in the Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh, around 100 km from Tinsukia, Assam[2]. His first exposure to superheroes came through cinema. In an interview with Global Indian, it was recalled that at the time, comic books on Spider-Man were not known to him; the film served as his first introduction to the superhero character.[3]
He was first introduced to comics in third grade, and began reading Raj Comics in Hindi, before discovering Gotham Comics, which introduced him to English-language comics.
He attended Government Secondary School, Diyun, until class 8 and then completed his 10th grade at Mahabodhi School, also in Diyun. For higher secondary education, he enrolled at Digboi College, Assam. He later moved to Delhi and graduated from Amity University in 2020 with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts.[2]
During his college years, Gyadu began sending out artwork samples to Indian comic book publishers. He also started a YouTube channel called The Comics Classroom[5] in 2021 (currently on hiatus), where he shared sketchbook tours, creative process videos, and motivational content for aspiring artists.
Entry into comics
[edit]One of the first publishers he approached with samples was Raj Comics, where he found a collaborator and worked on a few titles. This early experience is considered to have solidified his decision to pursue comics professionally and prompted the pursuit of formal training in fine arts.[6]
In 2016, he relocated to Delhi. Due to limited financial support from his family, he relied on his own earnings to fund his education. However, the high cost of living in Delhi led to the depletion of his savings within a few months. To support himself financially, he took employment at a call centre.[3]
During this period, a German woman, whom he had met several years earlier during a medical camp at Mahabodhi School, contacted him via email to inquire about his progress. He informed her that financial difficulties had caused him to postpone his educational plans. Subsequently, she offered to sponsor his tuition fees, enabling him to enroll at Amity University.[3]
Career
[edit]He began his professional journey with Raj Comics in 2015–2016, where he contributed to titles such as Adrishya Shadyantra and Brahmaand Vikhandan.[4]
In 2016, he joined Yali Dream Creations, contributing to short stories in the Rakshak series. From 2017 to 2022, Gyadu collaborated with Holy Cow Entertainment, working on titles like Operation Decay Vol. 02: O'kari, Dehek Vol. 01, and W.O.M.E Vol. 01. He returned to Yali Dream Creations in 2022 to work on Code Name Alpha Vol. 01.[4]
Meanwhile, he continued submitting samples to international publishers. In April 2023, an opportunity with Marvel Comics was obtained as a result of sustained efforts. His first work with them was a short backup story for Ghost Rider Issue 14. This led to working for Spider-Man: India, where he contributed to Issues 3, 4, and 5. He later worked on What If...? Venom Issue 2 and various Avengers Unlimited stories on Marvel Unlimited, the publisher's digital comics platform.[7]
Beyond his Marvel contributions, Gyadu also collaborated with Royal Enfield on their comic book project MLG: Never Outgunned.
