Draft:Svetopys (literary style)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Svetopys is a contemporary literary style developed by Ukrainian author Roman Chernenko, writing under the pseudonym Aleksromaska. The term "Svetopys" derives from Slavic roots meaning "light-writing" (from svitlo – light, and pysaty – to write).

This style emphasizes atmosphere, stillness, and the expressive silence between words. Narratives written in the Svetopys style are marked by fragmented phrases, pauses, visual gestures, and a deliberate rejection of traditional exposition. Instead of proving, the sentence "remembers" or "holds back."

The style was introduced through a large-scale literary project including over 50 characters, multiple narrative layers, and symbolic locations such as the Island, the Tower, and the Green World. It often explores themes of memory, resistance, identity, and inner voice.

Mentions of the Svetopys style have appeared in several regional Wikipedia articles, including:

  • Onufriivka, where the author spent part of his childhood;
  • Sloviansk, connected with the literary geography of the novel;
  • Kamianske, another city referenced in the biographical and thematic context.
