Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies.

Comment: I don't think this is a suitable title. Title should be more clear that this is a company product not the concept of sustainable cars Czarking0 (talk) 16:00, 22 April 2025 (UTC)

Sustainable Cars are a series of Seibu Railway's uniquely-named cars that are VVVF-controlled. 100 vehicles of the Odakyu 8000 series and Tokyu 9000 series types are expected to be delivered to the Seibu Railway between fiscal 2025 and fiscal 2029. Currently, only 1 trainset, 8003F, is known to have been painted into the Seibu Railway scheme, resembling the Seibu 30000 and 40000 series trainsets.
Overview
[edit]Seibu has replaced its old trains with its own newly built trains. However, the company had not set targets for when and how to replace its old trains with new ones, and it has also lagged behind other companies in the introduction of energy-efficient trains.[1] On May 12, 2022, parent company Seibu Holdings announced "Summary of Financial Results for the Fiscal Year Ending March 2022 and Progress of the Seibu Group Medium-Term Management Plan (FY2021-2023)" [2], in which it revealed its intention to acquire other companies' cars as Sustainable Cars. While this is not the first time that a major private railway company has acquired used cars from another company, it is unusual for any company to do this.
Sustainable Car types
[edit]On September 6, 2023, Seibu Railway announced it would purchase Odakyu 8000 series and Tokyu 9000 series cars on the Kokubunji, Tamagawa, Tamako, Chichibu and Sayama lines, with the 8000 series entering service in Fiscal 2024, and the 9000 series in Fiscal 2025 onwards.[3] These will be acquired for a fee, and according to Seibu, the breakdown of the number of cars is expected to be 40 former Odakyu 8000 series cars in six-car formations, 60 former Tokyu 9000 series cars in four-car formations, with Tokyu 9020 series also being included in the acquisition. Regarding the former Odakyu 8000 series, the September 20, 2024 issue of Railway Fan magazine revealed that the planned number of cars would be 42 cars, consisting of seven six-car trains. [4] Then, exactly one year after the initial announcement, on September 26 of the same year , the design and vehicle type (8000 series) were announced. Then, on January 7, 2025, the release below revealed that the planned start date would be changed from the end of fiscal year 2024 to the end of May 2025. [5]
The first Sustainable Car trainset was former Odakyu 8000 series 8261, which arrived at Kotesashi Depot on May 20, 2024, and was announced on X on the same day.[6] On July 1, it entered the Musashi-gaoka Vehicle Inspection and Repair Yard under its own power and underwent modification work, and it was announced on the same day that it would be released after major updates were completed on January 7, 2025. Seibu will also be updating on the transportation, out-of-service, and modification work from time to time, and will also be accepting press coverage of the modifications.4
