Suraj Tomar
[edit]Suraj Tomar is an Indian legal academic, advocate, and LGBTQ+ rights activist. He is known for his interdisciplinary work on cyber law, artificial intelligence (AI), digital privacy, and constitutional rights. He currently serves as a visiting assistant professor at SRM University, Sonipat, and is pursuing a Ph.D. in law with a focus on AI and data protection frameworks in India.
Early life and education
[edit]Tomar was born in Delhi, India. He completed a Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) with a specialization in Cyber Security from OPJS University, Rajasthan, in 2017. He pursued an LL.B in Cyber Law from Mewar Law College, affiliated with CCS University, Ghaziabad, in 2022.[1] He earned an LL.M in Criminology from SRM University, Sonipat, in 2023. His dissertation focused on the legal implications of AI in Web 3.0 and its impact on data privacy in India.
Career
[edit]Tomar began his professional career as a cybersecurity analyst and legal advisor, working with Secure Vision Labs and Raghav & Co. legal firm, respectively. From 2022 to 2024, he practiced law at Karkardooma Court in Delhi. He joined academia as an assistant lecturer at IMIRC College of Law, Hapur (2023–2024), and later as a visiting assistant professor at SRM University, Sonipat, in 2025.[2]
His teaching and research areas include AI and law, cyber law and digital rights, surveillance and data justice, and LGBTQ+ rights in the digital age. He has published multiple peer-reviewed articles on cybersecurity and human rights in national and international journals.
Advocacy and activism
[edit]Tomar is a founding member of Action for Well Being (AWB), a Delhi-based NGO that offers legal assistance to sexual minorities and transgender persons in India.[3] Through AWB, he has led awareness campaigns and legal workshops on LGBTQ+ rights and inclusive education.
His activism and legal advocacy have garnered national attention, especially regarding same-sex marriage and constitutional equality. He has been featured in several news outlets including the Times of India and BBC Hindi.[4][5][6]
