Sudeep Sohni[1]

Sudeep Sohni is an independent filmmaker[2][3], Playwright[4][5], writer[6][7][8][9] and poet from Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh). An alumnus of Film and Television Institute of India, Pune with the specialization in Screenplay Writing, Sudeep's films has been part of various film festivals across the globe. His Feature Documentary Tanishka on Bhopal based child Bharatanatyam exponent Tanishka Hatwalne[10] travelled to Festivals in India, USA, Europe and Bangladesh. Tanishka was nominated as the German Star of India under the Best Documentary at the 19th Indian Film Festival of Stuttgart[11],[12] Germany. His Second documentary Reminiscence of Gangaur was also travelled to Festivals in India, USA, and Trinidad & Tobago. Later the film got released at the American OTT Heritage[13] by The Archaeology Channel.[14] Thus, becomes the first film[15] from Madhya Pradesh to be released on the platform. His first collection of poems titled Manthar Hoti Prarthana[16] published in the year 2023 from Setu Prakashan,[17] Noida. Apart from that Sudeep is a regular columnist and speaker who writes, speaks and takes active participation on Cinema[18], Literature and arts in the country.[19] [20][21][22]

Early Life and Career

Sudeep was born on December 29, 1984 at Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh. He completed his graduation from Bhopal and later he moved to Mumbai. He started working in advertising and did work on various brands as copywriter including Furniturewalla,[23] Fosters, The Park Hotel, Tupperware[24], Mayfair Housing etc. During the launch of a campaign for Rotary Eye Bank Borivali, Mumbai famed TV actors Dilip Joshi and Disha Wakani of sit-com Tarak Metha Ka Ooltah Chashma joined an Eye Donation Campaign[25] which was headed by Sudeep.

Its a 10 minute long silent film that explores the gender discourse and complexities of the metoo movement. The film got its release on several OTT platforms including Hotstar, MX Player, Hungama, Airtel Xstream,[27] Tata Binge, VI Movies, Shorted and on YouTube.

Tanishka (2021 / Documentary)

Tanishka is Sudeep's Debut feature documentary that has travelled to many festivals. It got first premiered at SiGNS Film Festival, Kerala in Focus Documentary section and later it got its European Premiere at the 19th Indisches Film Festival, Stuttgart, Germany where the film was nominee under the Best Documentary. Its a non-linear film that showcases the life and artistic journey of child performer and Bharatanatyam Exponent Tanishka Hatwalne. Initially, special screenings[28] of the film were held at the Alliance Francaise, Bhopal.

Reminiscence of Gangaur (2023 / Documentary)

The documentary is a chronological documentation of Gangaur festival at the Kalmukhi village of Khandwa district in Madhya Pradesh. Shot during the festival season in the year 2015 and 2016, the film got completed in the edit in the year 2023. It was screened at various film festival in India, USA, and Trindad & Tobago and finally released on the Heritage Broadcasting[29] in the US. Thus, Sudeep became the first filmmaker from Madhya Pradesh to have got a release on US OTT.
