Steve Jones is an American business executive, entrepreneur, and author, currently serving as the Global Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Allied Universal, one of the world’s largest providers of security and facility services.[1][2] Under his leadership, the company has expanded operations to more than 100 countries and employs over 800,000 people globally.[3][4]

Early Life and Education

Jones was born in Orange County, California, and raised in Livermore, California. During his youth, he worked various jobs, including shoe shining, to earn money. He played football throughout his childhood and continued the sport at the collegiate level. Jones attended California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly), where he played college football and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in 1992.

He later completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Redlands while employed full-time. Jones has stated that his athletic background contributed to the development of discipline and perseverance, qualities he considers important to his professional success.[5]

Career

Jones joined Universal Protection Services in 1996, when the company operated as a regional firm with approximately $12 million in annual revenue. Over the subsequent decades, he played a central role in the company’s expansion, overseeing more than 100 mergers and acquisitions. In 2016, he led the merger between Universal Services of America and AlliedBarton Security Services, resulting in the formation of Allied Universal.

As of 2024, Allied Universal is the third-largest private employer in North America and the seventh-largest worldwide, with estimated annual revenues exceeding $20 billion.[6]

Leadership and Recognition

Jones has received several honors for his contributions to business leadership, including the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, the Orange County Business Journal Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and the Vistage International Leadership Award.[1][2] He was recognized twice by Inc. Magazine as a top job creator.[7] In 2024, SDM Magazine presented Jones with the Excellence in Executive Leadership Award.[8] He is a member of the Young Presidents' Organization and serves on the board of Allied Universal.[1]

In 2018, Jones published No Off Season: The Constant Pursuit of More, a book describing his business strategies and leadership approach.[12][13]

Philanthropy

Jones has supported initiatives focused on combating human trafficking. In 2023, he helped raise more than $2.7 million[14] for related programs, including funding for Vera’s Sanctuary for Women.[15][16]

Personal Life

Jones played college-level football and has credited the sport with influencing his leadership style.[17] He is married and has two sons, both of whom are active in athletics. He lives in Southern California and supports initiatives benefiting veterans and workforce development.[18]
