Draft:Spin Off (magazine)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Spin Off is an American hobbyist magazine, covering the art and craft of making yarn, published by Long Thread Media.

Spin Off was founded in 1977 by Linda Ligon, and published by her company Interweave Press, along with sister publications Interweave, PieceWork, and Handwoven, in her hometown of Loveland, Colorado. Ligon founded Interweave in 1975 and published annual issues of Spin Off from 1977-1982, changing to quarterly starting in 1983.

Aspire Media purchased Interweave and all its magazine titles in 2005, after which Ligon founded Thrums Books, a publisher that celebrates indigenous textiles and artisans from all over the world. Aspire Media was in turn acquired by F+W Media in 2012[1]. When F+W went into bankruptcy in 2019, Ligon teamed up with John Bolton and Anne Merrow to establish a new company, Long Thread Media, which purchased the Spin Off magazine along with PieceWork and Handwoven magazines, and continued the publication of the magazines and website uninterrupted after the sale from F+W[2]. The name Interweave was purchased by Peak Media Properties, who use it in their Interweave Knits magazine and interweave.com website.[3]. Ligon sold Thrums Books to Schiffer Publishing of Atglen, PA in 2020.[4]
