The South Azerbaijan National Liberation Movement, better known as JAMAH, is an Iranian Azerbaijani separatist and nationalist organization. The group advocated for the incorporation of Iranian Azerbaijan into the Republic of Azerbaijan, in order to form Whole Azerbaijan. JAMAH was founded in 1991 by Pirouz Dilenchi.
History
[edit]From 1991 to 1999, JAMAH was led by Pirouz Dilenchi. Dilenchi was then succeeded by Mahmoud Ali Chahragani. On January 21, 2002, due to internal disagreements within the JAMAH leadership, Chahragani was expelled by a majority vote of Dilenchi loyalists, and Dilenchi was elected as JAMAH leader for a second time. Chahragani went on to establish GAMOH.[1][2] JAMAH aimed for the integration of Iranian Azerbaijan into the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as Pan-Turkism, and the gradual Balkanization of Iran.[3]
