The Singapore Human Resources Institute (SHRI) is a non-profit professional organization representing human resource professionals in Singapore. Established in 1965, SHRI supports the development of the HR profession through training, events, publications, and awards.[citation needed]

History

[edit]

SHRI was originally founded as the Singapore Institute of Personnel Management. It was renamed to Singapore Human Resources Institute in 1990 to reflect a broader focus on workforce and human capital development.[1] As of 2023, the institute has over 3,000 members, comprising individual HR practitioners and corporate entities.[2]

Activities and Events

[edit]

SHRI regularly organises HR-related conferences, certification programs, and public education workshops. It also plays a role in national workforce development discussions through its partnerships with institutions such as the Ministry of Manpower, NTUC, TAFEP, ASME, and the Health Promotion Board.[3]

In May 2024, SHRI hosted the 19th World Human Resource Congress (WHRC) in Singapore, which featured over 60 international speakers and delegates from more than 30 countries. The event addressed themes including AI in the workplace, diversity and inclusion, and workforce transformation.[4]

Singapore HR Awards

[edit]

SHRI organises the annual Singapore HR Awards, which recognises excellence in areas such as workplace culture, employee well-being, innovation, and corporate social responsibility. In October 2023, Singapore Pools received multiple awards, including the Gold Award for Employee Health & Well-being and the Bronze Award for Talent Management.[5]

In September 2024, Info-Tech Systems won the Bronze Award for Excellence in Workplace Culture & Engagement at the 17th edition of the awards.[6] Senior Minister of State Zaqy Mohamad delivered opening remarks at both the 16th and 17th Singapore HR Awards, highlighting SHRI’s evolving contributions to the HR ecosystem and its introduction of categories such as Innovation (Technology) and Workforce Transformation for HR.[7]

Publications

[edit]

SHRI publishes a bi-monthly magazine titled Human Capital, which features thought leadership articles, case studies, and research relevant to HR professionals. As of 2023, the magazine has a reported circulation of approximately 10,000 copies.[8]
