[edit]Shyam Kumar Salvi (born 9 September 1972 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India)[1] is an Indian broadcast technology consultant and media AI strategist. He has over 28 years of experience in the field of television and digital media infrastructure, focusing on the design, integration, and optimization of broadcast systems. Salvi has been involved in projects for various television channels in India and abroad. He is the founder of Media Todays Broadcast Solutions[2], a company that offers comprehensive broadcast technology services.
Early Life and Education
[edit]Shyam Kumar Salvi[1] earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Physics from the University of Bombay in 1993. He later completed a Bachelor of Science in Technology (B.Sc. Tech.) in Electronics and Telecommunication from the same university in 1996.
Career
[edit]After completing his education, Salvi began his professional career as a broadcast engineer before moving into television broadcast consultancy and system integration.[3] He has been involved in the technical planning, setup, integration, and auditing of various television and digital media projects in India and internationally. His work spans multiple areas, including television channel system integration, IPTV and Web TV infrastructure, OTT platform design, satellite television systems such as earth stations and OB/DSNG/DMNG vans, FM radio and audio production, and community radio/TV projects. [3]Salvi has also provided consultancy for new television channel ventures, including preparing detailed project reports and overseeing complete system integration. Additionally, he has contributed to digitization and archiving systems, TV studio acoustics and infrastructure design, multi-camera event setups, and broadcast event management. He has conducted technical workshops and has been involved in teaching at media institutes.[3]
Early career (1996–2000s)
[edit]After completing his education, Salvi began his professional journey as a broadcast engineer and subsequently transitioned into broadcast consultancy and system integration. During the early phase of his career, he contributed to the technical direction of several prominent television productions, including Kaun Banega Crorepati (2000, produced by USL), We The People (DD National, hosted by Prannoy Roy), and Mastermind India (BBC World, produced by Siddharth Basu). He was also involved in multicamera production setups for international clients, including Aramco in Saudi Arabia. In addition, Salvi has served as a media and corporate advisor, focusing on the integration of artificial intelligence in broadcast systems.
Media Todays Broadcast Solutions
[edit]Salvi is the founder of Media Todays Broadcast Solutions[2], a company that offers end-to-end broadcast technology services. The firm's offerings include television studio design and integration, news automation and playout systems, OTT and IPTV platform development, technical audits, and system maintenance. Notably, Salvi led the system design and integration of News Express[4], recognized as India’s first high-definition Hindi news channel.[5]

Academic and industry associations
[edit]Throughout his career, Salvi has been associated with several organizations and institutions in both technical and academic capacities.[7] His early industry roles included work at Telerad, Mumbai (1996) and UTV/USL in Mumbai and Delhi (1998). He contributed as a technical director for various high-profile television productions, such as We The People (DD National, hosted by Prannoy Roy), Mastermind India (BBC World, produced by Siddharth Basu), Star Talk (hosted by Vir Sanghvi), talk shows by Karan Thapar (for UTV), and Kaun Banega Crorepati (2000, produced by USL). He also served as the technical director for multicamera setups for clients such as Aramco in Saudi Arabia.
In 2002, Salvi was appointed Technical Manager at STAR News in Delhi, and later served as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at TOTAL TV, Delhi. He has also contributed to broadcast education as a guest lecturer at institutions such as the Total Institute of Media Studies (TIMS) and the Sadhna Institute of Media Studies. As CTO of News Express in Noida, he oversaw technical operations, and he was involved in the technical planning for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Salvi held leadership roles such as Vice President at News Nation (Noida), and CTO at Arth Business News Channel (Mumbai). In academia, he has served as adjunct faculty at J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology and as a broadcast media consultant for Maharaja Agrasen University in Delhi.
He has acted as a broadcast consultant for various networks including the Sanskar TV Group and international broadcasters such as a television channel in Albania. He has also worked as a technical trainer for Sabic TV and as a technical director for multicamera events for Aramco and Al-Nijoom in Saudi Arabia.
In addition, Salvi has served as a technical auditor for multiple television channels and as an advisor to national, regional, and international news, general entertainment (GEC), and spiritual channels. He has also functioned as a technical evaluator for the Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Ltd. (BECIL), under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and provides strategic guidance on the use of artificial intelligence in broadcast operations.
Awards and Recognitions
[edit]Salvi received Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certification in 1999. In 2010, he was honored with the Sri S. Radhakrishnan Memorial National Award[7] by the Healthy Universe Foundation for his contributions to media education. He has served as an adjunct faculty member at J.C. Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad, since 2018. In 2022, he was awarded the Rashtriya Shiksha Ratan Samman by AVVIARE Educational Hub, Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
Training - Exhibitions & Global Engagements

His professional engagements include technical training with Quantal in Newbury and Sony Broadcast in London. He has attended key industry events such as the BES Expo (New Delhi), Broadcast India (Mumbai), BIRTV (Beijing, China), Broadcast Asia (Singapore), IBC (Amsterdam, Netherlands), and the NAB Show (Las Vegas, USA). He has also visited the BBC's technology facilities in London as part of a professional engagement.
