Biography
[edit]Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu is a distinguished Nigerian historian and academic administrator. He is a Professor of History at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, and the immediate past Director of Arewa House, Kaduna. Born on July 15, 1969, in Anchau, Kaduna State, he obtained his B.A. and M.A. in History from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Ph.D. in History from the University of Khartoum, Sudan.
Career
[edit]Shu’aibu began his academic career at Arewa House, the Centre for Research and Historical Documentation, Ahmadu Bello University, Kaduna, and has been actively engaged in academia since 2000.
Throughout his career, Shu’aibu has demonstrated exemplary leadership in educational research, historical documentation, and public policy discourse. He has held various academic positions at ABU and was promoted to full Professor in 2023. His scholarly contributions cover African history, Islamic scholarship, colonial studies, and historiography, with numerous peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and edited volumes to his name.
At Arewa House, Shu’aibu played a pivotal role in reviving the institution’s intellectual and policy relevance by organizing landmark conferences, public lectures, and stakeholder engagements on national development, security, and education. He has also been deeply involved in curriculum development and educational reform in collaboration with national and international organizations.
He is a member of the Historical Society of Nigeria (HSN) and the Islamic Manuscript Association (TIMA), University of Cambridge.
Works
[edit]- He currently serves as the Coordinator of the Northern States Education Research Project, a position he has held since 2000.
- He is also the Secretary of the Conference of Commissioners of Education of the 19 Northern States.
- Over the years, he has collaborated with UBEC and UNICEF on various educational projects and initiatives.
- Additionally, he is the Regional Coordinator for West Africa on the project Islamic History and Civilization in West Africa, sponsored by IRCICA, Istanbul, Turkey, a research institution under the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Professor Shu’aibu continues to contribute to national discourse through media engagements and academic fora, reaffirming his commitment to scholarship, policy advocacy, and community service.
