This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). Comment: While a point could possibly be made that her book is notable, I am not seeing a lot of sources showing that Kapri herself is notable. The reliability of the sources and the authors are also dubious to me. Rambley (talk) 23:23, 21 June 2025 (UTC)
Shadan Kapri is an American human rights attorney, activist, and author, best known for her work on social justice, environmental advocacy, and anti-human trafficking efforts. She is the founder of Kapri Law & Consulting, a boutique international law firm based in Spokane, Washington, that specializes in women's and children's rights, family law, and international human rights law.[1]
Early life and education
[edit]Kapri holds advanced degrees in law, international relations, and journalism. She is an alumna of Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism.[1]
Career
[edit]Kapri began her legal career focusing on human rights and public service. She was awarded a U.S. Fulbright Scholarship for her work on human trafficking, which later inspired her bestselling book, The Red Movement: Social & Environmental Justice in the 21st Century.[2]
She has received multiple accolades, including the Daily Point of Light Award from the White House and the United Nations Development Programme Online Team of the Year Award in 2007.[1] In 2025, she was named the Best Family Law Lawyer in Washington State by NY Review.[3] Her volunteer service was also recognized by the Points of Light Foundation, which honored her for over a thousand hours of local, national, and international service, including work with the United Nations and community legal outreach.[4]
The Red Movement
[edit]Published in 2021, The Red Movement explores the intersection of modern-day slavery and environmental degradation. The book has been praised for its bold critique of systemic injustice and received the International Impact Book Award in 2024.[1] According to *Medill Magazine*, the book "provides a new perspective on how to combat modern-day slavery while protecting the environment."[5] A reader review on the Online Book Club highlighted the book's call to action and its alignment with movements like #MeToo and Black Lives Matter.[6] A legal analysis published by *Juris Review* described the book as "a timely and urgent manifesto" that bridges the gap between legal scholarship and grassroots activism.[7]
Public engagement
[edit]Kapri is a frequent public speaker and advocate on issues related to human trafficking, systemic racism, and environmental justice. Her work has been featured in national and international media, and she continues to lead initiatives aimed at raising awareness and driving policy change.[1]
