-Scarlett Middle School was originally made/ constructed in 1968. As a 2 story, there is stuff that Scarlett has changed over the years. In 2024-2025, they painted the walls in the 6th grade hallway, and then 7th-8th grade science hallways, in the girls' and boys' bathroom near the pool, they put new flooring and walls. They add much more to scarlett, such as new curtains did you know scarlets curtains weren't always red, yeah they used to be blue like a navy or dark blue.

1970s-1980s -In 1970 Ann Arbor public schools wanted to take down the Scarlett and Mitchell woods. On February 1970’s students made a petition to save the scarlett and Mitchell woods. And the Ann Arbor public schools agreed to keep the Scarlett and Mitchell woods. -In the year 1980 Scarlett Middle school added a safety reading recovery net because this kid named Jeffrey Willets who was about 12 or 13 years old needing reading, writing, and spelling support from Mrs. Moody

1980s-1990s -The principle at the time was Mr. Mussio (Basil Mussio)

-Mr Mussio was the principal at scarlett for 15 years
-Mr Mussio passed away on August 26, 2013 at the age of 79 years old

-Scarlett Middle school was a very strict school back in 1980-1990 the rules were different and more strict than now, for example, they had a strict dress code and usually didn’t do stuff like spirit week or pajama day. There were much more lockers and the walls were not painted the way they are now. The lunch was totally different and the lunch trays were plastic and reusable and the forks and spoons too. They were way more options for sports available then now. There was American Football, Gymnastics, Field Hockey, and Synchronized Swimming. They were also way more after school clubs like Drama, Art, and Science Electives

1990s-2000s -There are not a lot of differences between the 90’s and now, some of the main changes are the students and teachers. There are a few different clubs including, rap, ski, etc and the sports are the same besides field hockey. One of the differences in the music is that the 7th and 8th grade were mixed in one of the years for orchestra, choir and band. In the 90’s and early 2000’s, they had mock elections for many different categories. For the 8th graders, instead of a cruise, they had 8th grade camp.

2000s-2010s Education: -“Better” teachers Learning different things -IB is new since 2016-2017 Sports: -More competitive sports -6th grade played other schools -Swim team -Many more sports Construction: -Used to be a stairwell in the library but now it's the check in area.

2010s-2025 -There have been a bit of changes through this time span, especially with clubs. There is no more good samaritan club, and they got rid of step club and archeologist club. But there was one club, peer mentoring that has kind of been replaced with a current club called peer to peer. So at least we still have some memory of this old club! A big difference Though was that many teachers and Staff have come and go. We even got A new principal, Mr Vasquez! -The Scarlett building has seen quite a lot of changes throughout these past 15 years. Some of the boards hung up in the hallway have gotten a color change, or even removed, the painting in the hallway now are no longer a cream color, but blue, red, and very white! Also, they used to award students with special awards like “Most friendly” or “Most athletic”. They sadly don’t do this anymore. These are a couple of major changes throughout this time -
