Sandro Salsano (born September 25, 1979) is an Italian-born investor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. He is the president of Salsano Group, a private investment conglomerate with interests in real estate, private equity, and technology.[1] He also founded the Salsano Family Office and the Salsano Shahani Foundation, a nonprofit organization supporting education initiatives in Latin America.[2]

Early life and education

Salsano was born in Lecco, Italy. He played professional basketball in his youth before attending university.[3] He graduated with honors from Bocconi University in Milan and completed an MBA exchange program at the University of San Diego.[4] He also attended executive programs at Harvard Business School, INCAE Business School, the University of Oxford, and Princeton University.[5]

Career

Salsano began his professional career at Scottish Widows Investment Partnership in London. He later became a partner and shareholder in a banking institution partially acquired by Goldman Sachs in 2007.[6]

In 2008, he founded Salsano Group, an investment firm focusing on private equity, real estate, and technology investments, primarily in Latin America.[7]

Philanthropy

In 2014, Salsano and his wife, Johanna Shahani, established the Salsano Shahani Foundation, a philanthropic organization aiming to improve educational opportunities for children in Panama.[8]

He serves as the country chair for Panama of Global Dignity, an international nonprofit promoting the universal right to dignity.[9]

Salsano is also a trustee of the University of San Diego and serves on the institution's Endowment Investment Committee.[10]

Recognition

In 2014, the World Economic Forum named Salsano a Young Global Leader.[11]

In 2020, Forbes Central America recognized him among the billionaires of Central America and the Dominican Republic.[12]

Personal life

Salsano married Johanna Shahani in 2014. The couple has two children.[13]
