Best known for his instrumental psychedelic pop/rock work, he is the creator of Space Cat Radio, an EP released in June 2025 that showcases his flair for genre-bending sonic exploration. Early Life and Education

[edit]

Sammy Blaze was born as Shishir Babu on 17 August 1995 in Kochi, Kerala, India, to Lalitha Babu and P.K. Babu. Though born in Kerala, he spent part of his formative years in Tamil Nadu, particularly in the hill town of Kotagiri, which continues to influence his musical sensibilities and identity.

Sammy completed his schooling in Kerala and later pursued higher education in Bangalore. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) with specializations in Marketing and Human Resources, graduating in 2019 from the MATS Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (MIME), under Jain (Deemed-to-be) University.

He grew up being called Sam, a name affectionately given to him by his sister, which he came to prefer and adopt as his own.

Career

[edit]

During the early stages of his musical journey, Sam was one of the founding members of a progressive metal band in Kochi called Random Proportions. He later left the band to pursue personal creative interests, eventually evolving into a solo act under the stage name Sammy Blaze.

A self-taught guitarist, Blaze is known for his textured instrumental compositions, often blending elements of psychedelic rock, ambient, and pop music. In June 2025, he released his debut instrumental EP, Space Cat Radio, a psychedelic pop/rock record noted for its experimental arrangements and ambient guitar-driven storytelling.

In addition to his work as Sammy Blaze, he maintains two other music projects:

  • Xenoy, a Math Rock and Progressive Rock project characterized by polyrhythms, tapping techniques, and layered guitar work.
  • Sennin 404, a project focused on electronic and meditative sounds, exploring genres such as ambient electronica and downtempo EDM.

Musical Style and Influences

[edit]

Sammy Blaze’s music merges analog instrumentation with atmospheric textures, aiming to evoke emotional and introspective states in the listener. His guitar work is central to his compositions and is influenced by both Indian musical heritage and global progressive rock traditions.

His diverse body of work reflects a deep interest in genre fusion and experimental soundscapes, drawing from his multicultural upbringing in both Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Personal Life

[edit]

Blaze identifies strongly with his Malayalee roots and credits his upbringing in the Nilgiri hills with shaping his appreciation for nature and solitude—recurring themes in his ambient and meditative compositions.
