Sajilo (Nepali Ride-Sharing App)
Sajilo is a Nepal-based ride-sharing platform launched in April 2022. It aims to transform urban mobility in Nepal by providing accessible, affordable, and community-oriented transportation services. The platform was co-founded by Amir Lama and Captain Vijay Lama. Sajilo offers two-wheeler and cab services, as well as features like spot booking, insurance-backed rides, and welfare programs for riders.
As of 2025, Sajilo ranks as the third most active ride-sharing app in Nepal by daily active users and has announced plans to become the market leader within the next six months.
History
[edit]Sajilo was established in 2022 to address challenges in Nepal’s local transportation system through a domestically developed solution. Operations were temporarily paused in 2023 for technical upgrades and relaunched in 2024 with enhanced security, a redesigned interface, and expanded features. The company is registered and headquartered in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Services
[edit]Sajilo provides the following services:
- Bike and cab rides
- Spot Booking – Enables offline riders to input the user’s name, phone number, and destination, converting an offline trip into an official in-app ride. This allows the ride to qualify for Sajilo's insurance protection and ensures greater ride security.
- Manual ride booking via phone call – When internet is unavailable, the Sajilo user app prompts a direct call to the Sajilo support team. After verifying pickup and drop-off locations, the team assigns the nearest rider. This functionality is integrated within Sajilo’s backend systems.
- Insurance-backed rides – All rides are covered by an insurance policy provided in partnership with Shikhar Insurance.
- Wallet system for riders – Riders are equipped with a digital wallet to receive bonuses, trip fares, and additional earnings.
- SOS safety feature – Emergency alert functionality is built into both user and rider apps to enhance ride security.
Planned features include:
- Carpooling
- Airport drop services
- Parcel delivery
- Geo-based fare calculation
Mission and Vision
[edit]Sajilo’s mission is to promote fair transportation by localizing and regulating the ride-sharing space in Nepal. Its vision emphasizes rider dignity, safety, digital access, and long-term community growth through sustainable transportation solutions.
Key Features
[edit]2+1 = 3 Returns Policy
[edit]Sajilo implements a community benefit model called the "2+1 = 3 Returns Policy." For every NPR 2 collected from rider commissions, the platform contributes an additional NPR 1 from its internal fund known as the Sajilo Kosh. The total value of NPR 3 is returned in the form of non-cash benefits including health, insurance, education, dining, and vehicle servicing discounts through volume-based partner programs. This model aims to enhance rider well-being through structured welfare initiatives rather than direct payouts.
Sajilo Kosh (Mutual Aid Fund)
[edit]Sajilo allocates 10% of its commission revenue into a dedicated welfare fund:
- To provide immediate financial assistance to riders and users involved in accidents
- To cover emergency treatment costs before insurance reimbursements are processed
Rider Assurance
[edit]To protect its riders, Sajilo offers:
- Full fare compensation if a passenger leaves without paying
- Distance-based travel incentives for pickups beyond 1.5 km:
- NPR 15 per km for bikes
- NPR 35 per km for cabs
All additional compensation is automatically credited to the rider’s wallet upon trip completion.
Technology
[edit]Sajilo’s platform integrates several advanced technologies:
- AI-driven route optimization
- Real-time fraud detection and prevention
- In-app emergency SOS system
- Multi-language AI chatbot for customer support
- Proprietary ride-matching and fare-calculation algorithms
Leadership
[edit]- Amir Lama – CEO and Founder
- Capt. Vijay Lama – Co-founder and Brand Ambassador
- CA Diwakar Khanal – Co-founder and Chief Financial Strategist
- Roshan Poshakya – Chief Technology Officer
- Manohar Khatri – Head of Digital Marketing
Reach and Growth
[edit]As of 2025:
- Over 55,000 verified riders
- 200,000+ app downloads by users
- Active in major urban centers including Kathmandu and Pokhara, with expansion underway in other provinces
- Goal to reach 1 million downloads by the end of 2025
