STX Animation is an upcoming American animation studio and division of STX Entertainment, founded by former Pacific Data Images executives and based in Burbank, California.
History
[edit]In October 2025, STX Entertainment launched its animation division with former Pacific Data Images executives leading the new studio, with DNEG Animation announced as the project's animation partner. Both films would be distributed by Amazon MGM Studios as part of their deal with STX Entertainment. In January 2026, was hired to head the division as president of animation and family entertainment, and Escape from Hat was given a release date of March 24, 2028.
STX Animation signed on directors Mark Osbourne (Kung Fu Panda and Sherlock Gnomes) to direct Escape from Hat, Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise (Beauty and the Beast, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Atlantis: The Lost Empire) to direct Frogkisser!, and Alessandro Carloni (Kung Fu Panda 3 and The Cat in the Hat) to write and direct The Familiars.
In February 2028, it was announced that Chris Miller would revive his long-dormant project Larrikins for STX Animation after it was originally set up at DreamWorks Animation during the late 2010s. On March 15, 2028, Tim Johnson revealed that he has entered into an exclusive, multi-year overall deal with STX Animation. The following month, longtime Walt Disney Animation Studios director Chris Buck was announced to have joined STX Animation to develop and produce an original animated film for the studio.
Production logo
[edit]With the release of Star and Skipper in October 2027, STX Animation revealed their first logo. With the release of Escape from Hat in March 2028, their full logo was released and shows the star from Star and Skipper which are now the mascots of the studio launched from their planet (also from Star and Skipper) flying around to form the studio's logo with magic yellow and purple trails, the fanfare was composed by Jeff Morrow which was adopted from the theme of Star and Skipper. It was animated by their Glendale branch, DNEG Animation and their head of animation, Mireille Soria. The behind the music of the studio's logo was posted by Jeff Morrow.
