SRIRAM's IAS is a Delhi-based coaching institute for the Civil Services Examination (UPSC) in India. The institute gained significant attention following legal and public controversies in 2024 related to its advertising practices and a controversial social media post.

Overview
[edit]Location: Multiple centers in Delhi, including Old Rajendra Nagar.
Focus Area: Preparation classes for UPSC Civil Services Exam.
Notable Claim: Marketed itself as “India’s No. 1 Prestigious UPSC/IAS Coaching Institute” and advertised “200+ selections in UPSC CSE 2022”[1][2][3]
Controversies
[edit]1. CCPA Fine for Misleading Advertisement
[edit]In August 2024, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) imposed a ₹3 lakh penalty on SriRam’s IAS for false and misleading advertising. The institute claimed over 200 selections in UPSC CSE 2022 and its status as "India’s No 1" despite failing to disclose that many of its “successful candidates” either belonged to its free programs or had studied independently[3]
- CCPA found that out of 171 records submitted (against the claimed 200+), 102 were from free Interview Guidance, 55 from free Test Series, 9 from paid GS classroom courses, and 5 through government MoUs[3]
- CCPA Chief Commissioner Nidhi Khare clarified that the institute violated the Consumer Protection Act by omitting critical details, misleading aspirants[4]
2. Social Media Backlash Over “Insensitive” Post
[edit]In July 2024, following the death of three UPSC aspirants in a nearby coaching centre flooding incident, SriRam’s IAS posted a message on X (formerly Twitter) urging aspirants to “not be part of the HERD so that you are HEARD.” The post was criticized as “apathetic” and “mocking” amid public grief and protests[5]
- The institute quickly deleted the post and issued a clarification, stating the message was misinterpreted, and meant to encourage aspirants to stand out positively
