Runnymede Junior and Senior Public School is a public elementary school in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, oversighted by the Toronto District School Board. Runnymede was founded in 1913, and was part of the Toronto Board of Education until 1998.

Runnymede, known as RPS, or Runnymede PS, is a school that runs from grades JK (Junior Kindergarten) to 8. Runnymede offers both regular English and French Immersion programs from JK-8.[1]

History

Runnymede was constructed in 1916 as a modest four-room building by George Marsden, the masonry contractor for the construction of the school.[2] Runnymede has then expanded to thirty rooms, and can house approximately 1100 students from JK-8. About half of the students at Runnymede are in the Early French Immersion Program, which begins in JK.[3]

Runnymede Home & School Association

The Runnymede Home & School Association (HSA) is a parent-run committee of parents, school staff, school administrators, and community members who are interested in getting involved in various school events.[4] The HSA is made up of an elected committee of representatives.[5]

Executive Committee

The HSA Executive Committee is a group of parents who volunteer to lead the different committees.[6] The HSA Executive Council is made up of the following positions;

  • HSA Council Co-Chairs
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Fun / Fundraising Chairs
  • Arts Committee Chairs
  • Communications Committee Chairs
  • Yard / Green Committee Chairs
  • STEM Committee Chairs

Executive Committee positions are elected/chosen at the start of each year at the September meetings.

School Advisory Council

The Runnymede School Advisory Council (SAC) has 3 committees that are still under the SAC umbrella. These SAC committees are;[7]

  • Safe & Caring Schools Committee
  • Staffing Committee
  • School Improvement Plan (SIP)

The Arts

Runnymede has strong Performing Arts programs which includes Drama, Band, and Strings. The school hosts various events for the community.

Nuit Orange and Illuminations

Nuit Orange and Illuminations[8] are events showcasing senior student drama performances, along with showcasing art created by senior students.
