Roelof Louw (1936–2017) was an installation artist, painter, sculptor and teacher.[1]Born in South Africa, Louw moved to London in 1961. He is probably best known for his Conceptual artwork Soul City (Pyramid of Oranges) (1967), a pyramid of 5, 800 oranges. A Participatory artwork[2], visitors were encouraged visitors to remove and consume the fruit thereby gradually destroying the artwork. The work was repeated at the Whitechapel Gallery in the Live in Your Head exhibition (2000).
