Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal
[edit]Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1996 batch, Maharashtra cadre. He has served in leadership positions at the state and international level, and is known for work in crowd management, athletic achievement, writing, art, and public speaking.[1]
Early Life and Education
[edit]Born in Delhi to a police family—his father Jile Singh served as Delhi Police DGP—Singal earned a BE in Electrical Engineering, an LLB, and a PhD in Management Science focused on crowd safety at large events, based on a study of the Guru Ta Gaddi Tercentenary Celebrations in Nanded.[2]
Career in Policing
[edit]Singal joined the IPS in 1996. His early postings included:

- SP in Nashik and Dhule districts[3]
International Deputation
[edit]From 2005–2007, he served in UNMIK, Kosovo as Chief of the War Crimes Investigation Unit, earning a United Nations Service Medal.[4]

[edit]- In May 2025, led a surprise police raid in Rahate Nagar slums to curb local crime.[6]

- Cracked down on drugs and illegal liquor operations; suspended police staff involved.[8]
- Formed SIT to probe the Shalarth teacher ID scam.[9]
- Launched "Operation U Turn" to combat drunk driving across 33 locations.[10]
Ironman and Fitness Initiatives
[edit]At age 50, Singal completed the Ironman Triathlon in Vichy, France (3.86 km swim, 180.3 km cycling, 42.2 km run) in about 15 hours 13 minutes.[11] He frequently leads police fitness drives, cycling rallies, and wellness initiatives.
