Rameez Shaikh (born 27 June 2004) is an Indian filmmaker and actor from Goa. He is known for directing the short film The Awakening, which received recognition at several regional and international student film festivals.
Early life and education
[edit]Shaikh was born in Mapusa, Goa. He is pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication and Journalism at Don Bosco College, Panjim. During his time as a student, he developed an interest in filmmaking and media production. He has cited his brother Ismail Shaikh, and professors Agnelo D’Souza and Archie Fernandes, as early influences and mentors in his creative journey.[1]
Career
[edit]Shaikh's short film The Awakening addresses the issue of environmental apathy. It was selected for multiple student film festivals, including:
- Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival (2024) – South Asia Regional Winner[2]
- Urban Adda Film Festival (2025), held at the Stein Auditorium in New Delhi[3]
- WAVES International Short Film Festival Goa (2025)[4]
- Mangrove Film Festival (2024)[5]

In addition to directing, Shaikh also appeared as an actor in The Awakening. The production was a collaborative student project featuring contributions from peers in writing, cinematography, music, and editing.

Shaikh has also worked in campus media as a reporter and anchor, gaining experience in news production and public communication.
Other activities
[edit]He is the president of the Cinemaniacs Film Club at Don Bosco College. In 2024, he led the organizing team for Cinemania, an intercollegiate film and media event hosted by the club.[6]

Personal life
