Rajib De (born 1 January 1973) is an Indian clinical haematologist and bone marrow transplant specialist. He is known for his work in haematology and stem cell transplantation in eastern India. He is currently a professor in the Department of Haematology at Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata,[1] and heads the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Howrah.[2]
Early life and education
[edit]Rajib De was born on 1 January 1973 in India. He completed his MBBS (1997) and MD Medicine (2004) at the University of Calcutta,[3] followed by a DM in Clinical Haematology at West Bengal University of Health Sciences in 2010.[4] He further specialized in bone marrow transplantation with a residency at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, concluding in 2012.[5]
Career
[edit]De has been a faculty member at Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College since 2011, progressing through roles from assistant professor to professor in the Department of Haematology.[6] He serves as consultant haematologist, haemato-oncologist, and bone marrow transplant physician, and led development of the BMT programme at Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Howrah, since 2016 and clinical lead since 2021.[7][8] He is among the early clinicians in eastern India to perform autologous stem cell transplantation for multiple myeloma and has overseen nearly 300 bone marrow transplants across autologous and allogeneic procedures.[9] He has also organized professional meetings focused on bone marrow therapy in the region.[10]
Research and clinical contributions
[edit]De’s clinical interests include thalassaemia, haemoglobinopathies, childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and aplastic anaemia.[11] He has participated in clinical trials and efforts to establish accessible bone marrow transplant programmes in tertiary care government centres in eastern India.[12][13]
