Halimuddin Rahat Moulaey was an Indian politician and poet who served as a Member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from the Moradabad City Assembly constituency during the late 1950s through early 1970s.
Political career
[edit]Moulaey entered active politics in the 1950s and was first elected to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly in the 1957 elections as an independent candidate from the Moradabad City constituency. He defeated Wali Ahmad Khan of the Indian National Congress with a margin of over 10,000 votes.[1]
In the 1962 elections, Moulaey contested on a Republican Party of India ticket and was re-elected from the same constituency, defeating Brahma Swarup of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh.[2]
He later returned to independent politics and once again won the Moradabad City seat in the 1969 elections, securing 21,602 votes and defeating Onkar Saran of the Indian National Congress.[3]
Literary contributions
[edit]In addition to his political career, Rahat Moulaey was a respected figure in the field of Urdu poetry. Several of his works are archived and published on Rekhta.org, a digital repository of Urdu literature.[4]
