Rachel Clacher
[edit]Rachel Clacher CBE is a British entrepreneur and social mobility advocate. She is the co-founder of the global telephone answering service provider Moneypenny, and the founder and chair of the charity WeMindTheGap, which helps young people from disadvantaged backgrounds build life skills and find employment or education opportunities.[1]
Early life and education
[edit]Clacher was born in Oswestry, Shropshire, United Kingdom.[2] She was raised in a family that supported and valued community and service. A strong sense of human-kindness, instilled by her family, would later shape her approach to both business and charitable work.
Career
[edit]Moneypenny
[edit]In 2000, Clacher co-founded Moneypenny with her brother Ed Reeves. The company, based in Wrexham, North Wales, offers phone answering services and has since expanded to the United States, employing over 1,000 people. Under Clacher and Reeves' leadership, Moneypenny gained recognition as one of the UK's best employers.[3][4]
WeMindTheGap
[edit]In 2014, Clacher launched the charity WeMindTheGap, originally known as the Moneypenny Foundation. The organisation provides paid traineeships for unemployed or disadvantaged young people. Since its inception, the charity has expanded its work to Liverpool and Flintshire and received £1.2 million in funding from the Big Lottery Fund.
Honours and recognition
[edit]In the 2019 Queen’s Birthday Honours, Clacher was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to business and the community. She received the honour from Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace in February 2020.[5] She was also named an Honorary Fellow of Wrexham University in recognition of her civic and social contributions.[6]
Philosophy and impact
[edit]Clacher is known for promoting "human-kindness" as a core value. This principle shaped Moneypenny’s workplace culture and inspired the mission of WeMindTheGap. She has also contributed to civic initiatives such as WhatWeAllAgreeOn, a collaborative platform supporting socially-driven entrepreneurs.
