Qasim Shesho is a Kurdish Yazidi military commander from Sinjar, Iraq. He led Yazidi resistance forces during the Sinjar massacre, defending Mount Sinjar against ISIS fighters.[1]

Life and Resistance

Shesho was born in Sinjar in 1950. In the 1980s, he fought against Saddam Hussein’s regime and later fled to Germany after surviving the Anfal campaign. He returned to Iraq during the ISIS advance and led a militia of Yazidis to defend the Sharaf al-Din shrine. His force eventually grew to thousands of fighters.[1]

Political Role

Shesho joined the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and advocated for Yazidi inclusion in a future independent Kurdistan.[2]
