Prof. Dr. Fauzias binti Mat Nor (born 24 February 1955) is a Malaysian academic and finance scholar. She is a Professor of Finance at the Faculty of Economics and Muamalat, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), widely known for her contributions to Islamic finance, corporate finance, and investment. She has served in various academic leadership roles and received multiple national and international recognitions.
Education
[edit]Fauzias was born in Parit, Perak, Malaysia. She holds a Diploma in Accountancy from Institut Teknologi MARA (now UiTM), a BBA and MBA from the University of Miami, Florida, and a PhD in Finance from University College Dublin, Ireland.
Career
[edit]She began her professional career at the National Audit Department of Malaysia before joining academia. She served for over 29 years at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), where she was Head of Finance Department, Deputy Dean of multiple faculties, and the founding Dean of the UKM Graduate School of Business (UKM-GSB).
At USIM, she has held key positions including Director of USIM 'Alamiyyah and Director of the Institute of Fatwa and Islamic Finance (IFWMI). She is also a Senate member and has contributed to the university’s internationalisation and research strategies.
Research and contributions
[edit]Prof. Fauzias has led more than 22 research grants and authored over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles, 14 academic books, and numerous book chapters. She has supervised over 30 doctoral students and is known for bridging academic scholarship with applied Islamic finance innovations.
Notable projects include:
- The **MSRI Framework** (Maqasid Shariah in Responsible Investment) – integrating ESG with Islamic values using AI
- The **Benefidonor Model** – introducing a digital waqf ecosystem and centralised beneficiary-donor matching
- Her book *Islamic Banking and Conventional Banking: A Comparative Approach*, which won the **2023 National Book Award (Malaysia)**
