PreMed.PK

[edit]

PreMed.PK is a Pakistani ed-tech startup for MDCAT preparation. It was founded in 2020 by two medical students: Hasnain Mankani (of Aga Khan University) and Fahd Niaz Shaikh (of Dow Medical College) as a project to make preparation of the Aga Khan University (AKU) Entry Test accessible digitally for a broader audience across the country. Since then, PreMed.PK has expanded its product to encompass the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT), NUMS-MDCAT, NTS, and other engineering university entry tests (ECAT[1], NET[2], GIKI[3], and FAST[4]).

PreMed.PK is the only startup in Pakistan that has been operated by a 100% student-only team ever since its inception.

History

[edit]

PreMed.PK was founded in 2020 by Hasnain Mankani and Fahd Niaz Shaikh. Hasnain and Fahd were both first year medical students at Dow Medical College, Karachi. Hasnain had applied to the Aga Khan University the same year but had not been able to secure a seat in his first attempt. However, during his first year at Dow Medical College, he applied to the Aga Khan University in his second attempt, and was able to secure a seat.

After having faced the same difficulties every aspiring Pakistani pre-medical student faces in the admission process to medical schools, Hasnain and Fahd decided to found a startup to aid students in preparation of Aga Khan University including its written examination and the interview process. The company began with a 3-membered core team comprising the co-founders and their colleague Umar Mahar (also from Aga Khan University) who served as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) from 2020-2022, and is still on the advisory board of the company.

Initially, PreMed.PK was only a "question bank" for AKU entry test, but it soon expanded to cover various other medical school entry tests of the country. It was not until 2024, that PreMed.PK launched its subsidiary company called PreEngineering.PK, and now covers major engineering school entrance exams in Pakistan.
