Polonia SC is an American amateur soccer team based in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York. The team currently plays in the Cosmopolitan Soccer League, the oldest continuously operational amateur football league in the country founded in 1923.[1] Their home ground is at McCarren Park, and they support two teams: Polonia SC and Polonia SC II.

History

[edit]

Polonia SC were founded in 1963 by Polish-American immigrants who had settled in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Polonia won their club's first ever league title during the 2024-2025 season, beating their longtime rivals NY Ukrainians 1-4 at their shared home field of McCarren Park.[2] This comes after NY Ukrainians equalized in the last five minutes of the last regular season match of the 2023-2024 season to knock Polonia out of playoff contention.[3]

Polonia's 2024-2025 season—where they went 16-3-3 for a total of 51 points—demonstrated a major turnaround for the club, having finished in 5th during the 2023-2024 season—with a record of 8-2-8—and just escaping relegation with a 10th place finish during the 2022-2023 season, with a record of 7-2-11.[4]

Polonia's 2024-2025 league championship adds to their two playoff championships from the 1994-1995 and 2010-2011 seasons.[5]
