Piotr Skubisz (born 1978) is a Polish independent fine art and portrait photographer based in Warsaw. His work explores themes of the human body, identity, and cultural diversity. Recognized internationally, his photographs have earned awards and been featured in numerous exhibitions and publications.
Biography
[edit]Piotr Skubisz was born in 1978.[1] He graduated from The Film School in Łódź (PWSFTviT) and studied Polish Studies at the University of Warsaw, where he also developed a strong interest in cultural anthropology. These academic experiences have shaped his distinctive approach to photography, which he describes as a continuous journey of experiencing and discovering.[2]
Skubisz specializes in portrait and fine art photography. His imagery delves into themes of self-discovery, cultural identity, and the nuances of human emotion. He currently resides in Warsaw and accepts commissions, including travel assignments.[2] His work is documented on prominent photography platforms such as LensCulture and All About Photo.
Artistic Approach
[edit]Skubisz defines his photographic practice as "an unending journey of experiencing and discovering". His work investigates the intricate layers of identity, self-discovery, and cultural conditioning. Influenced by his early experiences in communist Poland and by science fiction literature – notably Ursula K. Le Guin's The Left Hand of Darkness – his images challenge conventional perceptions of gender and beauty, inviting viewers to reflect on the complexities of the human condition. He views the human being and the body—"through which we communicate and perceive the world"—as constant mysteries and the primary motif of his photography, serving as a medium for "constant discovery of the Other, the Unknown." Through his lens, he strives "to celebrate the beauty of diversity and the universal quest for understanding and connection."[2]
