Papa Buka is a 2025 Indo–Papua New Guinea historical drama film directed by Dr. Biju and co-written with Daniel Jonerdhagtt. It is the first feature film co-produced by India and Papua New Guinea. The story explores the largely untold experiences of Indian soldiers who fought in Papua New Guinea as part of the British‑led Allied forces during World War II.
Plot
[edit]In 2010, Indian historians Romila and Anand travel to Papua New Guinea to research Indian soldiers who fought in the Pacific theater of World War II. With the assistance of local guide Sike Yuants and an elderly war veteran named Papa Buka, they traverse the Kokoda Track and surrounding villages. Discovering personal and historical stories, their expedition becomes one of emotional awakening, remembrance, and reconciliation, intertwining the legacy of Papua New Guinea’s indigenous communities who supported Allied forces.
