Pannakaparanar Tempe is a Hindu temple situated in the village of Thirumugatthalai in the Tiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu, India.
Location
[edit]This Shiva temple is located in Thiruthuraipoondi road, at a distance of 5 km from Thiruthuraipoondi.[1] This place is also known as Pannattheru.[2] To reach the location of the temple, Pannattheru, also known as Mukattalai, one has to get down at Kokkaladi and go towards North in the direction of Manaccheri at a distance of 1 km. [3]
Presiding deity
[edit]The presiding deity is known as Pannakaparamesvarar and the goddess Santhanayaki. [4] Karurtthevar in his song refers the primary deity as "Pannaka Parana". This temple is located at a place known as "Pannattheru". So, this name might have been came from the name of the place.[5] The name "Pannakaparanar" is referred in three places in the song. [3]
Speciality
[edit]Earlier, Mukalingam was called as Mugatthalailingam. Locals said that it was called as Mugatthalai. To substantiate this, a linga in found in the inner prakara of the temple.[2]
