Panagiotis Kotidis (born 5 May 1959) is a Greek former professional footballer who played as a right midfielder. He is best known for his long-standing career with Ethnikos Piraeus F.C. and a season with Ionikos F.C..

Early life

[edit]

Kotidis was born in Katerini, Greece. During his youth, his family relocated to Drapetsona. He began playing football with the local team Ypapanti. In a friendly match against Ethnikos Piraeus' youth team, Kotidis' performance led to his recruitment by Ethnikos.

Club career

[edit]

Kotidis joined Ethnikos Piraeus in 1977, where he played for 13 years, making 300 league appearances and scoring 58 goals. He made his debut in the Greek top division on 8 January 1978 against Aigaleo, scoring the winning goal in the final minutes. Despite offers from clubs like AEK and PAOK, he remained with Ethnikos throughout his prime years.

Ionikos Nikeas

[edit]

In the 1990–1991 season, Kotidis transferred to Ionikos Nikeas, where he made 16 appearances and scored one goal. He retired from professional football in 1991.

International career

[edit]

Kotidis represented Greece at the under-21 level, earning a cap on 3 December 1980.

Post-retirement

[edit]

After retiring, Kotidis did not pursue a coaching career, despite obtaining a coaching diploma in 1990, citing his temperament as a reason. He later worked for the Piraeus Port Authority (OLP) and, upon retirement, dedicated his time to his favorite hobby, fishing.

Personal anecdotes

[edit]

Kotidis recounted that during his youth, after a standout performance, he was rewarded with a significant sum of money by a club official. Unaware of the context, his parents initially believed he had acquired the money through dishonest means.
