  • Comment: Merely the number of primary sources, here (quite literally, with the subject of the article being the or an author on most citations, here) is problematic. We need to see additional secondary sources, to start. The prose of the article needs some adjusting, and we can address that and possible notability issues once the citations have been addressed (just as heads-up, this is looking a little shaky notability-wise... but I will reserve judgement until further secondary sources are presented). Óscar Loureda Lamas (1974, Abegondo, A Coruña) is a professor[1]of Linguistics, Translation, and Communication of the Spanish Language at the University of Heidelberg. He is a corresponding member of the Cuban Academy of Language, as well as a professor[2] honoris causa at the University of the Pacific in Peru. He is also codirector[3] of the Observatory of Spanish in Europe, which in 2024 was awarded the Premio del Hispanismo Internacional[4] by the Fundación Duques de Soria.[5][6][7][8][9]

Life

He began his studies in Hispanic Philology at the University of La Coruña in 1992, completing them in 1997 with an extraordinary award. Four years later, in 2001, he defended his doctoral thesis titled "Análisis de las estructuras lexemáticas del metalenguaje de la lengua: los nombres de los tipos de texto en el español actual[10]."

Academic Activity

He worked as an assistant professor at the University of La Coruña from 2001 to 2008. Simultaneously, from 2005 to 2007, he was a researcher at the University of Tübingen with a postdoctoral fellowship[11] from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. In 2008, he was appointed professor of Translation in the Spanish language at Heidelberg University, where he directed the Institute of Translation and Interpretation (2010-2014) and the Galician Studies Center from 2011 to date[12]

He has also been a visiting professor at the Universities of Panama, Cádiz, and Granada. Between 2011 and 2015, he was the vice-president of the German Association of Hispanists (Deutscher Hispanistenverband), and between 2015 and 2019, he took on the role of president. From 2015, he has been a jury member [13]of the Princess of Asturias Awards.

Research lines

His research is focused on communication and discourse. In addition to international research projects in the field of experimental pragmatics, he has conducted studies on semantics, phraseology, text grammar, and the social aspects of Spanish, with special attention to Spanish as a language of migration and heritage.

He is currently the deputy director of the Revista Internacional de Lingüística Iberoamericana[16], as well as a member of the scientific committee of several journals, such as Journal of Psycholinguistic Research[17], Journal of Spanish Language Teaching[18], Revista del Instituto de Lengua y Cultura Española-RILCE[19], Normas[20], Signos[21], Estudios de Lingüística de la Universidad de Alicante-ELUA[22], and Spanish in context[23], among others. He is also co-directing the "Manuales de estudios Iberoamericanos" and "Understanding Ibero-American Spaces and Dynamics" collections.

He has played a prominent role in quality assurance with agencies in Spain, Chile, Austria, Switzerland, and Germany. He served as Vice-Rector at Heidelberg University between 2013 and 2019[24]. To date, he is a member of the National Accreditation Council (Akkreditierungsrat) of Germany[25] and the Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation (Agentur für Qualitätssicherung und Akkreditierung) of Austria[26]. He has also been a consultant, evaluator and comission member ofmany different quality assurance programs and has advised various international organizations, particularly in Ibero-America, such as the Agencia Española de Calidad (ANECA) and the Agencia Canaria de Calidad Universitaria y Evaluación Educativa (ACCUEE).
