Orhan Arıkan (born 1964, in Manisa, Turkey) is a Turkish electrical engineer and academic, currently the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey. [1] He served as the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department Chair from 2011 to 2019. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Education and Career

Arıkan attended Ankara Science High School. He received his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara, in 1986. He earned his Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign in 1988 and 1990, respectively.[2]

After completing his Ph.D., Arıkan worked for three years as a Research Scientist at the Schlumberger-Doll Research Center in Ridgefield, Connecticut, United States. In 1993, he joined the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Bilkent University.

Arıkan’s academic work has focused on areas such as signal processing, time–frequency analysis, and remote sensing. In recognition of his educational contributions, he received the Distinguished Teaching Award from Bilkent University in 1998. He was also honored with the Young Investigator Award in Engineering from the Turkish Scientific and Technical Research Foundation (TUBITAK) in 2002.
