Nosicelo Mtebeni (born April 13 1998 - 19 August 2021) was a South African anti-GBV campaigner.[1] Mtebeni was killed by her boyfriend who stuffed her bodyparts in two plastic bags and placed them on the street.[2]

Early life

[edit]

Nosicelo Mtebeni was born in Vosloorus, Gauteng where she completed her primary education at Naledi Junior Secondary School and matriculated at Tholang Senior Secondary in 2016. She was in her final year of a bachelor of laws degree at the University of Fort Hare when she was killed and was due to graduate.[3]

Murder

[edit]

Mtebedi was murdered by his boyfriend, who was jealous and outraged, suspecting she was cheating on him. Alutha Pasile appeared and admitted in the High Court in East London to killing Mtebedi and defeating the ends of justice by hiding parts of her body in an apartment shared with ten other tenants.[4] [5]Pasile confessed that he killed Mtebedi after seeing messages that he himself sent to her a long time ago, without realizing at the time it was his text.[6] In his confession to the court, Pasile said he had killed Mtebeni by stabbing her and smashing her head against the wall.[7]Pasile, who was 25 years old at the time, was sentenced in the East London High Court to 25 years in prison for her murder and for attempting to defeat the ends of justice.[8]

At the time of her death, Mtebedi was a vocal GBV campaigner.[9]
