Draft:Northern Cemetery (Uddevalla)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Northern Cemetery (Swedish: Norra begravningsplatsen) is a cemetery in Uddevalla, Sweden. It belongs to the Church of Sweden and is located in Uddevalla socken. It was built alongside the Eastern Cemetery after the old graveyard was destroyed in the great city fire of Uddevalla in 1806. The northern cemetery was completed in 1809[1]. The fountain in the center of the cemetery was designed by Arne Andersson[2].

The cemetery is currently situated in between the national road 44, which runs next to the cemetery’s northern wall, and two train tracks, which runs outside the south wall. To access the main entrance, one must cross both the Bohus Line and the Älvsborg Line at a level crossing.

Some notable people buried at the Northern Cemetery are[3]:

  • Wilhelm von Braun, author and poet
  • Carl Gabriel Malmgren, father of Ture Malmgren
