NORD 55°[1] is an alliance of Nordic cultural and media profiles, established to strengthen a shared Nordic public sphere. The initiative includes media houses and organizations, including JP/Politiken (Denmark), Amedia (Norway), Bonnier News (Sweden), Sermitsiaq (Greenland), and the Finnish association Konstsamfundet.[2]
The alliance publishes a newsletter bi-monthly, edited by Hilde Sandvik, which covers cross-border cultural and societal debates. This newsletter also serves as a precursor for the annual NORD 55° summit, with the first event scheduled to take place in Copenhagen in 2026.
In may 2025 a pre-summit will be hosted in Copenhagen with the title “A Call to the Nordic Region”.[3]
The primary ambition of NORD 55° is to support Nordic democracy and foster debate culture by providing a framework for cultural and societal discussions across the region.[4]
NORD 55° was founded by Christian Have, Stig Kirk Ørskov, Lise Bach Hansen[5], and Hilde Sandvik. Its vision is to create a foundation for shared cultural understanding and collaboration, thereby contributing to the Nordic democratic traditions.
