Niebüll neg (German: Bahnhof Niebüll neg) is a railway station is a railway station serving the town of Niebüll in the state of Schleswig-Holstein in Northern Germany. The station lies on the Niebüll–Dagebüll Railway and the train services are operated by Deutsche Bahn and Norddeutsche Eisenbahn Niebüll.

It serves as the starting point of the Niebüll–Dagebüll railway, with ferry connections from Dagebüll to the islands of Föhr and Amrum. The transfer from Niebüll station (DB station) is facilitated by a shunting movement via a siding track alongside the line to Westerland, then back west past the Nf signal box onto the Dagebüll line.

History

[edit]

The neg station was established in 1895 with the originally meter-gauge Niebüll–Dagebüll railway. Adjacent to the station is the company’s central depot, which includes a locomotive shed with a workshop for vehicle maintenance and several sidings. In 1928, when the railway was converted to standard gauge, a siding was extended from the station to enable the exchange of passenger coaches and other vehicles with the mainline railway. This allows transfer trips via shunting movements, during which road access to the station forecourt is secured with a flag.

Services

[edit]

Efforts are made to ensure connection reliability, with trains at Dagebüll Mole waiting for delayed ferries and those at Niebüll neg waiting for delayed mainline trains. The high boarding height of older neg trains to Dagebüll poses a challenge for wheelchair users and travelers with heavy luggage (such as spa guests heading to Föhr and Amrum), which is mitigated through personal assistance upon prior request.[1]
