Nia Suardiaz Münzinger (born 14 February 2007) is a Spanish wingfoiler. In 2023, at the age of just 16, she became the youngest world champion in the history of the sport. Since then, she has won several world titles.
Biography
[edit]Nia Suardiaz was born on 14 February 2007 in Tarifa, Spain, to a Spanish father and a German mother.[1]
In 2022, she became Youth World Champion in wingfoiling for the first time, winning titles in both the freestyle and slalom disciplines.[2][3] She successfully defended these titles in 2023 and 2024. That same year, she also won several World Cup events [4] [5]and earned her first vice world champion titles in the adult category in both freestyle and slalom. [6]
Also in 2022, Nia Suardiaz won the European Championship in wingfoil slalom held in Rhodes, Greece.[7][8][9]
She became Spanish national champion in both freestyle and slalom in 2022 and defended these titles in the following three years: 2023, 2024, and 2025.[10]
In 2023, at the age of just 16, she became World Champion in the adult division for the first time [11], winning in both freestyle [12] [13]and slalom. That year, she also received the Red Bull Rockets Award in Pozo Izquierdo, Gran Canaria, for the highest jump. Additionally, she claimed the title at the European Wingfoil Race Class Championship in Athens, Greece.
In 2024, Suardiaz became World Champion in four disciplines [14]: freestyle, freefly slalom, big air, and wingfoil racing [15], and also achieved the vice world champion title in the wave discipline [16], at the age of 17.
In January 2025, she won the first-ever indoor wingfoiling competition [17], held at the Boot trade fair in Düsseldorf, Germany.
One month later, Suardiaz made history by winning the World Championship in the wave discipline [18] in Sal, Cape Verde [19]— becoming the first athlete to hold world titles in all existing wingfoil disciplines.
