Introduction
[edit]Nazdar Idres (born 1992 in Deraluk, Amedi, in the Duhok Governorate) is an Iraqi Kurdish lawyer, television presenter, and social activist. She is widely recognized for her work in public education on marriage, gender roles, and family awareness. Through her presence in media, workshops, and community events, she has played a prominent role in promoting legal understanding, social responsibility, and cultural dialogue within Kurdish society.
Early life and education
[edit]
Nazdar was born in 1992 in Deraluk, a town in the Amedi district of Duhok Governorate in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. She is originally from the nearby village of Hetit. She completed her primary education in Deraluk and secondary education in Hetit. She later studied law at the University of Duhok and graduated in 2014.
From an early age, Nazdar demonstrated exceptional confidence, communication skills, and public presence. During her school years, she was known for her natural talent in writing and poetry, as well as her ability to speak clearly and bravely in front of audiences. She regularly composed and recited poetry at school events and community celebrations. Her talent earned her first place in a poetry competition across all schools in the Amedi district, one of the largest districts in Iraq. Her achievement was officially recognized by educational authorities, the Ministry of Education, and local community leaders, who presented her with awards and honors. These early experiences played a foundational role in shaping her future career in media and public education.
Legal career
[edit]Shortly after graduating, Nazdar began her career as a lawyer in the city of Duhok, where she practiced for three years. Her legal work focused on community and social issues, contributing to her early public reputation. This period established the foundation for her later involvement in advocacy and public speaking.
Media and journalism
[edit]

Nazdar's journey into journalism began in 2016, when she joined a local radio station called "Metin" in the Amedi district. There, she hosted social programs that addressed family and community topics..[1]
This early experience served as a foundational training ground, shaping her voice, building her confidence, and deepening her passion for media. Nazdar quickly discovered her strength and natural ability in the field, and it was during this time that she began to see herself as a capable and promising journalist. The radio station became a launching point for her transition into television, where she later joined Speda TV and expanded her reach to a wider audience.
In 2017, Nazdar transitioned to journalism, joining the Kurdish satellite television network Speda TV. Her programming primarily addressed social issues, especially those related to marriage, family life, and women's rights. In 2018, following her marriage, she moved to Sulaymaniyah and worked as a presenter for NRT TV, continuing her journalistic work until 2020. Her media presence allowed her to reach a broad audience and address important topics in Kurdish society.[2]

Nazdar's influence in the field of family education and marriage counseling continues to grow throughout the Kurdistan Region. On a daily basis, she receives calls and requests from individuals in various cities seeking her advice and guidance on marriage-related issues. She regularly provides informal counseling to people experiencing family conflicts, especially young women, newly married couples, and adolescents. Her community work has helped many navigate social challenges and build healthier, more stable relationships. Through her outreach efforts, Nazdar has become a trusted figure for those in search of practical advice and emotional support.
In recognition of her influence, Nazdar received the "Best Journalist in Duhok" award in 2023 from a local organization.[3]. She is regularly invited to conferences and public discussions, and collaborates with NGOs and media outlets to support community development and women's education.
