Abū al-Faḍl Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Qādir ibn ʿUmar ibn ʿAlī ʿAwwāmah al-Nuʿaymī al-Ḥusaynī al-Ḥanafī (Born January 1940) is a Syrian Muslim scholar. He is known for his expertise and specialisation in hadith, fiqh, and the sciences of hadith. He is recognized as a meticulous researcher (muhaqqiq) and a scholar with a clear and insightful methodology. He is also known for his extensive work on editing and providing introductions to numerous Islamic texts.[1][2][3]

Biography

Muhammad Awwamah was born in Aleppo, Syria on the 14 Dhu al-Hijjah 1358, corresponding to January 1940.

He began his religious education at a young age and studied under several prominent scholars of the 20th century, including Muhammad As-Salqini, Abdullah Sirajuddin, and Abd al-Fattah Abu Ghudda. He later studied at the University of Damascus, where he deepened his expertise in the Islamic sciences.

Shaykh Awwamah is recognized for his rigorous methodology in hadith authentication, textual criticism, and manuscript editing. His approach combines traditional Islamic scholarship with precise academic standards. Over the decades, he has edited and annotated numerous classical texts, many of which are considered critical references in the study of hadith and Hanafi jurisprudence.

He has lived and taught in various countries and has had a notable influence on contemporary scholars and students of Islamic knowledge across the Muslim world

Works and Contributions

Shaykh Awwamah has authored and edited several significant works, including:

  • An extensive edition of Al-Musannaf by Ibn Abi Shaybah, published in 28 volumes
  • Commentaries and introductions to works such as Al-Shama’il al-Muhammadiyyah by al-Tirmidhi, and Al-Kashif by Imam al-Dhahabi
  • A hadith compilation titled Min Siḥāḥ al-Aḥādīth al-Qudsiyyah (Selected Authentic Qudsi Hadiths)
  • A pedagogical work titled Al-Mukhtār min Farā’id al-Fawā’id, containing scholarly insights and reflections for students of religious knowledge
