Miroslav Mitić (born August 26, 1971) is an international film producer, screenwriter, and entrepreneur.[1] He is best known for producing Zona Zamfirova (2002), which became the most-watched Serbian film in recent history.[2]. Over the years, Miroslav Mitić has been involved in projects across film, television, and digital media, as well as in fields such as software development, e-commerce, and energy efficiency. His professional activity spans Serbia, Europe, and the United States.

Early life and formative influences

Miroslav Mitić was born into a family with professional backgrounds in engineering, entrepreneurship, and public service. His great-grandfather was involved in the development of Serbia’s postal system during the reign of King Milan Obrenović, and his grandfather Gavrilo served in the royal aviation unit under King Alexander I before working in mechanical engineering.[3]. Another grandfather, Svetislav, worked as a private entrepreneur, while his maternal relatives were among the first to build a hydroelectric plant in Serbia in the 1930s. His father, Srbislav Mitić, held an executive position at EI Niš, a major Yugoslav electronics company. His mother, a mechanical engineer, was actively involved in his technical education. He is also related to Rajko Mitić, a prominent footballer after whom the national stadium in Belgrade is named. During his childhood, Miroslav Mitić developed an early interest in technology and space exploration. A toy robot, the film Star Wars, and a textbook image of Earth from orbit contributed to this fascination. In 2004, through the visual identity of his company Dream Company Yugoslavia, he introduced a concept depicting water on Mars, reflecting his longstanding interest in science, media, and speculative ideas.

Education and early career

Miroslav Mitić graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Niš in 1995, specializing in thermal engineering. Between 1996 and 1998, he completed a master’s program in public relations and production at the International Public Relations Academy in Belgrade. He later obtained the professional title of Master of Mechanical Engineering (M.M.Eng.), combining technical and communication and media-related qualifications.

Mechanical engineering and energy efficiency

Since the late 1990s, Miroslav Mitić has worked on mechanical engineering projects focused on energy efficiency and renewable energy. His work has included the design of HVAC systems, energy audits, and the implementation of sustainability measures in public sector buildings such as hospitals, schools, and residential complexes. He has also participated in collaborative projects with international organizations aimed at improving institutional energy performance.

Film and television production

Miroslav Mitić gained recognition in Serbian cinema with the film Zona Zamfirova (2002), which attracted over 1.08 million viewers in Serbia and the former Yugoslavia.[4]

He subsequently produced several feature films, including The Robbery of the Third Reich (2004),[5] Balkan Brothers (2005),[6] Nafaka (2006),[7] and The Sky Above the Landscape (2006).[8]

Miroslav Mitić also created the digital format Little History, and wrote and produced 132 episodes of the television series Little History of Serbia (2014–2015), which received recognition at the FEDIS Festival.[9]

In 2017, Miroslav Mitić released Zona Zamfirova: Part Two – Come Back Zone, which became the top-grossing Serbian film of that year.[10][11]

Miroslav Mitić holds the exclusive rights to the Zona Zamfirova franchise and is currently developing a third installment. Zona Zamfirova 3 is set during the Balkan Wars and World War I, focusing on the experiences of women during that era.[12]

Miroslav Mitić has continued to work on film and television projects in Europe and the United States. He is the writer and producer of the historical film trilogy Constantine the Great, which explores the life and legacy of Emperor Constantine.[13]

Miroslav Mitić is also writing, producing, and directing the international feature film Gipsy Rhapsody – Djelem, Djelem, about the life and music of Šaban Bajramović, a Roma singer and composer known for his contribution to Balkan jazz and world music.[14]

Miroslav Mitić’s upcoming film Elvis in Memphis combines elements of history, comedy, and drama, following the story of a talented trumpeter who dreams of visiting Memphis, Tennessee, the hometown of his idol, Elvis Presley.[15]

In addition to scripted productions, Miroslav Mitić is developing Exchange Challenge, an interactive reality show designed for international audiences across television, streaming platforms, and social media.[16]

Entrepreneurship and business ventures

Miroslav Mitić is the founder of several ventures operating in the fields of film production, media, software development, e-commerce, digital marketing, and international trade. He has been involved in the development of logistics software platforms aimed at optimizing transportation and delivery systems, as well as a streaming platform with an alternative revenue model for digital content distribution. In addition to his work in digital entertainment, he has launched a retail initiative known as the Dream Magic Deli Market, combining elements of convenience retail, café culture, and local product promotion.[17]

In 2013, Miroslav Mitić developed the concept for ZONECITY, a theme park inspired by the film Zona Zamfirova, located near Vlasina Lake. The proposed complex features period-style architecture, a hotel, casino, restaurants, a cinema, and cultural venues.[18]

Personal life

Miroslav Mitić is married to Ivana Mitić, a philologist, screenwriter, and executive producer. They have one son, Uroš Mitić, who studied diplomacy and security studies.

Miroslav Mitić has been active in commercial development. He has followed urban trends in Downtown Memphis, including changes in property values and large-scale developments such as the expansion of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and technology-related investments in the area.[19]
