Mika Moupondo is a Congolese-Romanian composer, music producer, and singer based in Sweden. He is recognized for his contributions to pop, R&B, and EDM music, collaborating with various international artists. Notably, he co-wrote "Baddest Girl in Town" by Pitbull, featured on the Grammy Award-winning album Dale (2015).[1]
Early life
[edit]Moupondo was born in Galați, Romania, and raised in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He later moved to Sweden, where he pursued a career in music. He is the older brother of singer Mohombi, who has also achieved international success.
Career
[edit]Moupondo began his music career in the mid-2000s as part of the Romanian-Swedish pop duo Montuga, alongside Mihai Ristea. In 2008, they released their debut single, "Sofia". The track gained significant attention in Romania, peaking at number 13 on the Romanian Top 30 chart in December 2008.[2] Additionally, "Sofia" was ranked number 96 in the Romanian Chart 100 Best of 2008.[3]
In 2014, Moupondo contributed as a composer and producer on Romanian pop artist Alexandra Stan’s second studio album, Unlocked. He co-wrote several tracks, including "Dance," which achieved commercial success in Japan.[4] He also co-wrote the single "Vanilla Chocolat," featuring Connect-R.
In 2015, he co-wrote "Baddest Girl in Town", a collaboration between Pitbull, Mohombi, and Wisin. The track was featured on Pitbull’s ninth studio album, Dale, which won the Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards.[1]
Moupondo collaborated with Romanian singer Cristina Vasiu on the single "Nu Pot Uita", released in 2013, contributing as co-writer and vocal producer.[5]
He has also participated in songwriting camps and co-productions with other international artists such as Faydee and Viky Red, contributing to various pop and electronic music projects.
