Michael Carr (born 6 March 1986 in Dundee, Scotland) is a British entrepreneur, best known as co-founder and CEO of the learner-driver platform GoRoadie and co-founder and director of the volunteer-matching service GetLocalSupport.[3]
Early life and education
[edit]Michael Carr was born on 6 March 1986 in Dundee, Scotland.[4] He attended St Saviour's Roman Catholic High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Games Technology from Abertay University in 2008[5] and completed a Level 5 Diploma in Coaching & Mentoring through the Chartered Management Institute in 2017[6]
Career
[edit]Michael Carr began his professional journey in software engineering and development roles before moving into leadership positions. Between 2017 and 2018, he served as a Technology Lead at Amazon, where he managed a team delivering internal HR tools for Global Talent Management.
In March 2017, Carr and co-founder Barry White launched GoRoadie, a Dundee-based platform that revolutionised how learner drivers book and manage driving lessons online.[7] Under his leadership as CEO, GoRoadie expanded nationally, signing up over 200 instructors and 10,000 students by 2021.[8] The platform also partnered with Airbnb Driving Lessons in Nottingham in 2020, offering localized bookings[9] and was featured in The Courier’s profiles of Dundee startups.[10][11]
In May 2020, Carr co-founded GetLocalSupport, a volunteer-matching service created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.[12] By the end of 2021, the service had coordinated over 500 volunteers across Scotland.[13]
