Submission declined on 28 July 2025 by MediaKyle (talk). This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies. Declined by MediaKyle 2 hours ago. | ![]() |

Merryhill School is a group of private schools in the United States offering preschool, elementary, and middle school education. The schools operate in California, Colorado, Nevada, and Texas.[1][2][3][4]
History
[edit]Merryhill School was founded in 1949 by Dorothy and Howard Tompkins in Sacramento, California. The original campus began as a church annex and served five preschool-aged children. The Tompkins family later opened two additional locations offering preschool and elementary education.[5]
In the late 1970s, Dr. Donald Leisey, former public school superintendent, acquired the schools. He introduced rebranding and implemented before- and after-school programs that included extracurricular activities such as study halls, dance, music, and athletics. By 1980, the school expanded to over 20 locations in California, including the addition of middle school grades at the flagship campus.[6]
Merryhill was acquired in 1989 by Rocking Horse Child Care Center, Inc. The organization was renamed to Nobel Learning Communities in 1993 and later Nobel Learning Communities in 1998.[7] In 2018, Nobel Learning Communities, including Merryhill School, was acquired by Spring Education Group, a national network of private schools.[8]
Accreditation
[edit]Many Merryhill preschools are accredited by National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).[9] The elementary and middle schools hold accreditations from Western Accrediting Commission for Schools (WASC)[10][11] and Cognia.[12][13]
Campus openings and relocations
[edit]Merryhill School has expanded to multiple regions with new campuses and relocations including:
- 2007: A preschool opened in Sacramento's Natomas neighborhood.[14]
- 2013: The Roseville, California campus relocated to support the addition of middle school grades.[15]
- 2017: A new preschool campus opened in Aurora, Colorado.[16]
- 2025: A preschool campus opened in Midtown Sacramento, California.[17]
