Mayank Bidawatka is an Indian entrepreneur and technology executive best known for co-founding Koo, a multilingual microblogging platform launched in 2020. Following the closure of Koo in July 2024, he launched Billion Hearts Software Technologies, a consumer tech startup focused on building digital products for a global user base.[1]
Early life and education
[edit]Mayank Bidawatka was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, and completed his schooling at St. Mary’s School in Mumbai.[2] He went on to earn an MBA from the Asian Institute of Management in the Philippines.[3]
Career
[edit]Bidawatka began his professional journey with leadership roles across various startups. He was part of the founding team at redBus, serving as Head of Marketing.[3] He later co-founded Media Ant, a media discovery and buying platform, in 2012. He also worked as a consultant at TaxiForSure and co-founded Vokal, a vernacular knowledge-sharing app, in 2018.[4]
In 2020, Bidawatka co-founded Koo with Aprameya Radhakrishna under Bombinate Technologies. Koo positioned itself as a social networking alternative to Twitter for Indian language users and gained momentum during the Indian government’s push for digital self-reliance.[5] Koo won the AatmaNirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge and was endorsed in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Mann Ki Baat."[6]
However, by mid-2024, Koo faced challenges related to monetization and user retention and was shut down.[7]
Billion Hearts
[edit]In 2024, Bidawatka launched Billion Hearts Software Technologies.[8] The startup secured $250,000 in angel funding from tech industry veterans, including co-founders of Ola, InMobi, and redBus.[9] In early 2025, it raised $4 million in a seed round led by Blume Ventures and General Catalyst.[10][11]
