Draft:Matilda Söderlund

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Matilda Söderlund (* 21. Mai 1992 in Stockholm) is a Swedish sports climber. She is the first Scandinavian woman who climbed a route with a rated grade of 9c.

Career

[edit]

Söderlund started climbing at the age of 11. After only three months, she got second place in the junior Swedish championships. At the age of 20, she was the first Swedish person to qualify for a final in the world championship. 2013 she placed sixth in the World Games in Cali.[1]

2017 she changed her focus from competitive climbing to outdoor climbing. Two years later, she conquered the route Elderstatesman, which is rated 9a. This makes her the first Scandinavian woman to successfully climb a route of this difficulty.[2]

In 2022, together with Sasha DiGulian and Brette Harrington she climbed Rayu (8c), a big wall route in Peña Santa de Castilla. It's the first ascent for a female team and only the second ever successful attempt overall. Additionally, it's the hardest rated ascent of an exclusively female team of a big wall route.[3]

2022 she opened the climbing gym Moumo in Stockholm.[4]
