Martin Richardson, Lord Richardson is a Scottish judge who has been a Senator of the College of Justice, a judge of the Supreme Courts of Scotland, since 23 February 2021.[1]

Career

Richardson graduated from the Universities of Edinburgh (LL.B) and Leiden (LL.M) before practising as a solicitor from 2000, including at the European Commission.[2] In 2003 Richardson passed advocate and became a member of the Faculty of Advocates, specalsing in commercial law. He was appointed as Standing Junior Counsel to the Scottish Government and also to the Advocate General for Scotland.[3] Richardson was appointed as an Advocate Depute in 2016.[4] Richardson was appointed (then) Queen's Counsel in 2017.[3]

As an Advocate, Richardson was one of the counsel who acted for Abdelbaset al-Megrahi.[5] As Advocate Depute, Richardson appeared for the Crown in the Fatal Accident Inquiry into the deaths of four off-short workers who died when a helicopter crashed on its approach into Sumburgh Airport.[6]

In June 2022, Richardson was nominated by the Lord President of the Court of Session to sit as a chairman of the Competition Appeal Tribunal.[7]
